Clarification for EDD Exemptions for Call Center:
SEIU Local 1000 received further clarification from EDD regarding the exemptions to the 4 day in office Executive Order RTO for employees assigned to call center units. Originally, we understood that to mean all employees assigned to call center units. However, it only applies to employees assigned to call center units that also perform primarily call center duties and handle customer calls. Specifically, the exemption applies to Program Technician I, Program Technician II, and Tax Compliance Representative classifications.
The previous update has created some further confusion regarding the EDD Call Center exemptions to the 4 day in office RTO mandate. Our apologies for any confusion caused. To clarify further:
The classifications specifically stated in the update above were identified by EDD, but the exemption is not exclusive to those classifications. EDD stated that the exemption applies to employees in classifications that perform call center or contact center functions, and whose essential duties require direct telephone or remote communication with the public and claimants.
EDD also stated that numerous divisions and work groups are temporarily exempt, using rotating systems or temporarily delayed due to work space allocation needs. SEIU has asked EDD for a breakdown of those impacted units.
In response to the RTO mandate and what is happening at the bargaining table, SEIU Local 1000 is planning Strike School sessions and Informational Pickets across California to hold the line and fight for a fair contract. Find a local action and make your voice heard!
