On July 2, 2026, SEIU Local 1000 held meet-and-confer sessions with the departments of Office of Exposition Park Management (OEPM) and California Science Center (CSC) regarding the Return-to-Office (RTO) mandate, effective July 1, 2026.

  • Currently, there are only ten impacted employees in these departments.
  • There is no 50 miles exemption.
  • During these meetings, the departments confirmed they aim to offer a flexible schedule regarding RTO, allowing employees to discuss their telework days with their supervisors.
  • Working in the office will not disrupt employees’ workflows. If employees require accommodation, they should follow the reasonable accommodation process.
  • Exceptions from the four-day in-office requirement will be considered on a case-by-case basis, depending on individual circumstances.
  • There is availability of workspaces and equipment for in-office work.

OEPM and CSC confirmed their intention to adhere to the Governor’s mandate of four days in the office.

In response to the RTO mandate and what is happening at the bargaining table, SEIU Local 1000 is planning Informational Pickets across California to hold the line and fight for a fair contract. Find a local action and make your voice heard!
