Are you looking to start your career in mainframe computing technology? Local 1000 is now recruiting for the third cohort of the zSystems Apprenticeship Program with classes and training planned to begin as early as March 2023.  This opportunity is being offered to members working for the Department of Technology and the Employment Development Department.

Those accepted in the program will enter a training and development assignment in an IT position for a period of up to two years.  During this time, apprentices will receive on-the-job training alongside related instruction facilitated by American River College which is derived from IBM’s gold standard curriculum and framework to train apprentices in occupations such as mainframe system administrator or application development specialist.  At the conclusion of the program, apprentices will meet the minimum qualifications to promote into an IT classification and support the State of California’s mainframe computing and information technology needs!

Applications for the next wave of classes are due to SEIU Local 1000 by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 31, 2022.
