At SEIU Local 1000, upward mobility is a Union Value. Since 2016, we’ve been providing a growing number of opportunities for our members in the form of ground-breaking apprentice programs in the areas of nursing, financial services, and information technology.

The California Labor and Workforce Development Agency plans to spend nearly a half-billion dollars on programs like Local 1000’s Apprenticeship Program —as reported in the Sacramento Bee.

“Strict rules for hiring and promotion tend to shut out apprenticeships from California government employment, but one state employee union has made the arrangements work, ushering employees into higher-paying jobs.”

Local 1000 Apprenticeships couple on-the-job training with related study and instruction in order to increase workers’ skills and allow them to be more competitive in the job market. At the same time, workers continue to receive income, avoiding financial barriers that otherwise would prevent them from attaining education and new skills.
