Eric Bowers, a union steward at the Yountville Veterans Home and a dedicated member of Bargaining Unit 15, exemplifies what it means to lead with purpose and solidarity. Since joining the State of California workforce in 2020, Eric has been a powerful voice for fairness, dignity, and respect in the workplace.
Why Union Membership Matters
“Union membership is about more than benefits—it’s about standing together,” Eric says. He believes that through collective action, workers can secure not just better wages and conditions, but also a sense of community and shared strength. “When one of us faces injustice, we all stand together.”
Stepping Up as a Steward
Eric became a steward after witnessing mistreatment by a manager. “I couldn’t stay silent,” he recalls. “I wanted to be part of the solution.” Since then, he’s been on the front lines—listening, advocating, and ensuring every worker is treated with respect.
The Work Continues
Eric knows the fight for fairness is ongoing. “Every challenge is a chance to make a difference,” he says. Whether it’s resolving a grievance or negotiating better conditions, he remains committed to supporting his fellow members.
A Message to Members
“Our union is only as strong as the people behind it,” Eric says. “Stay engaged, stay informed, and stay proud. Together, we are a movement—and there’s nothing we can’t achieve.”
