Out-of-Class grievance win earns member back pay and more
There are many examples when, as state workers, we are asked to perform duties that are out of the scope of our job classifications. It’s called “working out of class” and our
contract offers strict guidelines to protect our represented employees from working above their current classification without an increase in pay.
When those rights are violated, Local 1000 stands up. Here are some examples:
Our Leadership Update for November 18
Veterans Day gives us a time to reflect on those who step up to protect our nation, and we owe them every expression of gratitude. The reason government work was originally called the “civil service” was to imbue it with the same level of import and commitment found in military service. State workers have value that extends far beyond the recognition we receive from the State or the public. Because of your service to California, you are owed much more. That’s exactly why our Contract Campaign is so important and why we must redouble our support to strengthen our Union.
Know Your Rights – Paid Holidays in our Contract
Your Local 1000 Union Contract contains hundreds of articles governing your hard-earned rights, including wages, benefits, and working conditions. This overview explains how our 96,000 represented state workers are entitled to 11 observed holidays and how you’re paid for those holidays should you be required to work on one of those days.
Premium Holidays
Employees who work any of these six holidays will be paid at 1.5 times their regular rate of pay and will also earn up to 8 hours of holiday credit.
Congratulations to our Union Brother David Matanga for his Election Victory!
Our SEIU Local 1000 Purpose Statement encourages us to create a better California and to pursue social, economic, and environmental justice. Our Members take action every day to make positive change in our workplace, at home, and in our communities.
Occasionally, our activists step up and go beyond their hard union work. Today, we’re celebrating our Brother David Matanga, a long-time Local 1000 member-leader who won election as the Montebello City Treasurer.
Susanville News: Financial mitigation agreement reached
Our Union team met again with the state regarding the financial aspects of the Voluntary Transfer Process (VTP) on Thursday November 10th. Throughout the negotiations regarding the VTP, the state did not move from their initial relocation support payment of $1,500. Our team knew that number was not enough to fully support the needs of our impacted employees in Lassen County, choosing to extend negotiations in an attempt to secure more financial support for our represented employees.
