SEIU Local 1000 making politics matter
Our efforts to fight for social and economic justice for workers—and all Californians—has led to a number of bills becoming law this legislative season that will change the lives of our members, our families. and our communities.
We maximize our impact at the Capitol by first electing lawmakers who share our values. and we build powerful alliances with other unions and community partners to fight for issues that impact working families.
Our bargaining team never stops
SEIU Local 1000’s bargaining team is holding their first meeting after our hard-fought contract was signed into law by Governor Newsom.
The Statewide Bargaining Advisory Council (SBAC) is comprised of more than 100 member- elected bargaining representatives from up and down California—including the 60-plus members who negotiate our contract with the State. They meet regularly to develop strategies for bargaining and to understand and respond to issues that affect our lives at work and at home.
Working conditions improved at DMV call center after rats invade
When an infestation of rats overwhelmed the employees of the DMV call center in Fresno, SEIU Local 1000 and agency management combined efforts with local health authorities to solve the problem.
The health and safety of our represented employees is a union value. The call center is situated in a largely unoccupied strip mall, and this isn’t the first time the building has encountered a pest problem.
