Our bargaining team never stops

SEIU Local 1000’s bargaining team is holding their first meeting after our hard-fought contract was signed into law by Governor Newsom.

The Statewide Bargaining Advisory Council (SBAC) is comprised of more than 100 member- elected bargaining representatives from up and down California—including the 60-plus members who negotiate our contract with the State. They meet regularly to develop strategies for bargaining and to understand and respond to issues that affect our lives at work and at home.

Working conditions improved at DMV call center after rats invade

When an infestation of rats overwhelmed the employees of the DMV call center in Fresno, SEIU Local 1000 and agency management combined efforts with local health authorities to solve the problem.

The health and safety of our represented employees is a union value. The call center is situated in a largely unoccupied strip mall, and this isn’t the first time the building has encountered a pest problem.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Through a great many pink things—badges, ribbons, shirts, among them—we’re marking October as we recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Here at SEIU Local 1000, our Women’s Empowerment Committee is working to raise awareness through two walks—one in Sacramento and one in Los Angeles—and by fundraising throughout the month.

SEIU Statement on Terrorist Attack on Israel and Crisis in Gaza

WASHINGTON, DC (October 17, 2023) —Service Employees International Union (SEIU) President Mary Kay Henry issued the following statement today in response to the ongoing conflict in Israel and Gaza:

“SEIU believes that all Israelis and Palestinians deserve safety, freedom from violence, and the opportunity to thrive. Our union includes many who have family members, Israeli and Palestinian, who have been impacted by the recent violence. We stand against antisemitism, Islamophobia, racism and hate in all its forms around the world.”

Providing Real Representation for our Members is a Local 1000 Priority

Having a strong union means having the power to protect our rights and enforce our contract, and our online search tool allows our members easy-to-use access to the hundreds of contract articles that govern our wages, benefits, and working conditions.

Throughout the year, our members, working in concert with front-line job stewards and our Union Resource Center, pushed back against contract violations. We often reported wins on behalf of a good number of the 100,000 state employees we represent.
