As we head into the heart of summer, I want to take a moment to wish everyone a happy, healthy, and safe season. Whether you’re taking some well-deserved time off or continuing to serve Californians through the hot months, your dedication does not go unnoticed.
Over the past several months, our team has been hard at work making Unit 15 classifications more relevant and visible within state service. We’ve been focused on highlighting the essential work our members do every day to keep California running smoothly. From facilities maintenance to food service, custodial work to groundskeeping—our contributions are the backbone of state operations.
The Bargaining Team is proud of the progress we’ve made and even prouder of the hard work each of you puts in. As we continue to advocate for better working conditions and recognition, your stories and experiences remain at the heart of our efforts.
With summer temperatures rising, I want to remind everyone to take care of yourselves on and off the job. Here are a few important summer health tips:
- Stay hydrated – Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
- Wear sunscreen – Protect your skin from harmful UV rays.
- Seek shade – Take breaks in shaded or cool areas when possible.
- Shelter from extreme heat – Know your limits and avoid overexertion.
If you’re experiencing heat-related issues or unsafe worksite conditions, please don’t hesitate to contact the Member Resource Center. Reporting these issues helps us advocate for safer environments for all.
Lastly, we want to continue celebrating the incredible work of our members. If you have a story to share—whether it’s about your job, your team, or your journey—please email us at [email protected]. We’d love to feature you in an upcoming newsletter.
Thank you for all that you do. Stay safe, stay strong, and enjoy your summer.
In solidarity,
Eric Murray
Chair, Bargaining Unit 15
