On June 24, 2026, SEIU Local 1000 held a meet-and-confer session with the Department of Child Support Services (CSS) regarding the Return-to-Office (RTO) mandate, which is set to take effect on July 1, 2026.
- During the meeting, the department confirmed the department aims to offer a flexible schedule regarding RTO, allowing employees to discuss their telework days with their supervisors. Telework days may be adjusted in coordination with a supervisor or manager, as the department is still working out the specifics.
- Working in the office will not disrupt employees’ workflows. If employees require accommodation, they should follow the reasonable accommodation process. As your department is still developing the implementation details, it may not be ready to proceed effectively with RTO by July 1, 2026.
- The details for the RTO implementation process are still being finalized. Once this information is available, the department plans to communicate it in writing to all SEIU employees and provide them with a 30-day notice.
- Exemptions from the four-day in-office requirement will be considered on a case-by-case basis, depending on individual circumstances.
- There is availability of workspaces and equipment for in-office work.
CSS confirmed its intention to adhere to the Governor’s mandate of four days in the office.
In response to the RTO mandate and what is happening at the bargaining table, SEIU Local 1000 is planning a Holding the Line Rally at the Capitol to make our voices heard. Please join us on July 1 as we continue fighting for Telework that Works and the contract state workers deserve.
