On February 26th, the CPUC SEIU Steward team met again with CPUC management regarding the 2 day in office RTO implementation. The team did get clarification that CPUC is working on improving the reimbursement process to shorten the timelines and improve the overall system. The details are forthcoming, and CPUC did confirm the SEIU team would be given a chance to review and offer feedback prior to rolling out the new improvements. The details are forthcoming, and CPUC did confirm the SEIU would be given a chance to review and offer feedback prior to rolling out the new improvements.

In addition, the SEIU CPUC Steward team got clarification that management is aware of ongoing infestation problems, has received the complaints and pictures employees are sending in, and will be meeting again with DGS to push for further action to address the pest control issues. CPUC did confirm they have increased the frequency of pest control from once a month to once every other week.

Specifically for the San Francisco office, there is no update or expected timelines for re-opening the cafeteria. It currently remains closed, except for special events, upon request. The Steward team did ask if the space could be made available for employees to use regularly during breaks and lunches, but were told no.

Finally, the SEIU team proposed creating a Joint Labor Management Committee (JLMC) to hold continued discussions about ongoing concerns and issues from the RTO implementation. CPUC was open to discussing concerns at lower levels, however, they ultimately were not agreeable to a JLMC.

In response the Steward team will be formally requesting a JLMC per the Contract as well as a formal Health and Safety Committee. The Steward team is determined and committed to address the ongoing issues RTO has created and hold CPUC accountable to their obligations under the Contract.

“While we were confused and disappointed in CPUC’s unwillingness to create a JLMC, that will not stop us from exercising and enforcing our rights under the Contract and advocating for our members.” –Terry Gray, SEIU Steward, CPUC- San Francisco
