California Passes Landmark Bill; Gives Voice to More Than Half Million Fast-food Workers
In historic victory for working people, a first-of-its-kind bill will guarantee workers a seat at table to help set wage, health, safety, and training standards across the fast-food industry

The California State Senate passed AB 257, the FAST Recovery Act, on August 29, 2022, marking an historic victory in fast-food workers’ decade-long fight for fair pay and a voice on the job. AB 257 would protect and empower California’s fast-food workforce, which is majority Black and Latino, with a voice on the job to help set minimum industry standards around wages, safety and training.

District Labor Council Tour Continues – New Members Signing Up at Every Stop!

We’re visiting worksites across the state to meet with represented workers and build a stronger Local 1000 by building our membership numbers to impact the upcoming 2023 contract negotiations.

“We’re re-energizing this union to do the work needed to strengthen Local 1000,” said Board Chair Bill Hall. “That starts with generating the leverage we need to begin negotiations in a stronger position, and that begins with generating more members.”

A Weekly Progress Report from Board Chair Bill Hall

Along with myself, the Vice Presidents were on the road for another week as we build union power at worksites across the state. My report of the week’s events at SEIU Local 1000 is focused on those in-person, face-to-face relationships we’re developing. Every worksite we visit, finding out what urgent and unheard issues you’re facing is our top priority so that we can unite and demand improvements to our working conditions, pay, and benefits. At each worksite, we ask: Are you ready to take action? The answer is a resounding “Yes!”
