On December 22, 2025 – SEIU Local 1000 met with PUC regarding the 2 Day in office RTO implementation. The process is ongoing and we are looking to schedule future meetings as we did not discuss and address everything in this meeting. However, we were able to confirm:
-
- Management has discretion and flexibility for schedule changes, individual issues, and unexpected things like tech issues, weather, traffic, etc.
- Employees are not expected to make up sick days solely because they were out on a scheduled in office day.
PUC says it considered the increased cost (parking, commute, impact on childcare, etc.) and impact to work-life balance, but DOES NOT expect an adverse impact on the staffing or morale at PUC due to RTO!
Regarding facilities, health and safety, and the 50-mile exemptions, we confirmed some details, but many items are still outstanding and will be addressed in our coming meeting(s) including:
-
- Facilities & Health and Safety
- Identified health and safety issues like rodents, mold, etc. PUC following up.
- Requested schedule of cleaning for hvac, carpets, etc for all worksites
- Confirmed
- Ergonomic evaluations are by request
- Hotel cubicles all have equipment set up
- Wifi, workspace, and equipment is all ready
- Expectation is to hardwire in while onsite
- PUC has no mandated policies for scents/foods and cleaning in shared spaces
- PPE available on request
- Emergency preparedness drills and schedule for 2026 – pending and PUC will follow up
- Facilities & Health and Safety
-
- Exemptions (50 miles and RA)
- Determined by DGS Calculator
- Routes used and process – PUC is following up
- Does it stay with employee or position? How long? – Follow Up coming
- Determined by DGS Calculator
- Exemptions (50 miles and RA)
CALL TO ACTION!
We requested the PUC clean employee cubicles since many have been unused over the past 5 years. The PUC stated that DGS only cleans cubicles upon request. The PUC put in a request for cubicle cleaning, but was not sure whether or when this could be completed.
Please email [email protected] and cc [email protected] and your management if you are interested in having your assigned cubicle or hotel cubicle cleaned by DGS prior to your first in office day. Please also copy one of your PUC stewards to let us know you took action! We are looking at dates to schedule the next meeting in the coming weeks. Please keep an eye out for updates.
In Solidarity,
SEIU Local 1000 PUC Steward Team
Thank you for doing this work, stewards!
