Fighting for State Work

One of our significant achievements has been our successful fight against contracting out Unit 15 state work. This victory is a testament to our collective determination and the power of our united voice. By keeping these jobs within the state, we have safeguarded the interests of our members and ensured the continued delivery of quality services.

Building Our Membership

A key focus this year has been on building our membership. Our team has been tirelessly visiting various worksites, engaging with members, and informing them about the benefits and wins of our contract. Our membership drive has been another area of success. Vice Chair Garth Underwood has been leading this effort, along with the hard work of several of our stewards. One standout example is Daniel Massie from the Central Valley, who signed up 50 new members in just one month this past summer. We are excited and proud of the team’s hard work and want to give a special shout-out to Daniel Massie.

Smooth Implementation

Ensuring a smooth implementation process for our contract has been another area where we have excelled. Our proactive approach and continuous communication have helped address any challenges promptly, ensuring that our members experience the full benefits of the contract without any disruptions.

Effective Communication

Since last year, Unit 15 has started a newsletter to communicate with both members and non-members. This newsletter keeps everyone informed about the actions taken by Unit 15 leadership at various worksites and provides updates on our joint labor management committees (J. LMCs). We also send out communication blasts after our J. LMC meetings to keep everyone in the loop.

Community Involvement

Unit 15 has been actively involved in the local communities we serve. When fires broke out in Los Angeles a few months ago, we worked with community partners to provide food, water, shelter, clothing, toiletries, and other essential items. Our first event helped 1,800 families, and the second event supported 400 families, including some of our own members in state service.

Looking Ahead

As we move forward, we remain committed to advocating for our members’ rights and working towards even greater achievements. Together, we will continue to build a stronger, more resilient Unit 15.
