DIR RTO Meet & Confer Report

Jun 24, 2025 | Bargaining News

Our Union team met and conferred with the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) on Friday, June 20, 2025 regarding their plans to implement return to office guidance requiring employees to work in-office four days a week.

In our discussions our team raised concerns from our represented employees who are impacted by this shift back to working in-office after multiple years of successfully working remote centered.

Our team learned work week schedules can be flexible. If you have a unique situation where you may require an alternative schedule or some kind of exception to four days in the office, you need to communicate in writing with your supervisor to seek a solution.

If you exceed the fifty (50) mile rule where you work 50 or more miles from your worksite then communicate in writing with your supervisor to seek a flexible solution.

If your supervisor denies your request, you can call the Member Resource Center (MRC) 866-471-7348 (SEIU) to file a grievance to escalate your request.

Through our discussions we learned every employee should be provided with the following equipment at their workstation:

  • Adjustable workstation (sit/stand desk)
  • Docking station w/ direct network access
  • Dual monitors
  • Keyboard
  • Mouse
  • Standard ergonomic chair

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) should be available at every office to include: N95 or disposable face masks, Lysol wipes, cleaning solution, gloves, and hand sanitizer.

If there are other issues that are not being unaddressed at your worksite impacting your ability to safely return to the office contact the Member Resource Center (MRC) 866-471-7348 (SEIU).

This meeting is just one part of our ongoing work to push back on sweeping return to office requirements being placed on SEIU Local 1000 represented employees. Please see our SEIU Local 1000 website to find out how you can get more involved in our Union’s fight to retain telework for our represented employees.
