Your Unit 11 Bargaining Team has reached an agreement with CalHR that secures several major wins for our represented employees!

Here’s what’s in our Unit 11 Laboratory Assistants Side Letter Agreement:

  • Lab Assistant Classification Series Update was approved by SPB on 6/9/25.
  • Section 11.50.11 was amended to increase Phlebotomy differential from $200 to $400 per month.
  • Continuing education units, CA State License Fee, and other associated costs will now be fully reimbursable for employees (Pursuant to 13.10.11 Education and Training (Unit 11) and 12.15 Reimbursement of Fees).
  • Minimum educational requirement increased from 8th Grade Equivalent to High-School Diploma in alignment with the CA State Phlebotomy License requirement.
  • Possession of valid CA State License to perform Phlebotomy is now a condition of employment for Lab Assistants who perform Phlebotomy work.

This win was fueled by the hard work and persistence of bargaining team members like Tammie Howze who stepped up to advocate for her classification. Representation at the table matters and this Side Letter win proves it!
