Our Union team met and conferred with CDTFA on June 13, 2025, regarding their plans to implement return to office guidance requiring employees to work in-office four days a week. On short notice, the CDTFA Labor Relations Manager presented unnecessary documents that delayed meaningful dialogue regarding the implementation of RTO. These documents attempted to impose restrictions on the Meet and Confer process that neither CalHR nor SEIU Local 1000 Chief Negotiators have discussed or agreed to. CDTFA continues to push a July 1, 2025, return to work without consensus from SEIU and it’s represented members.

Our team will work diligently to facilitate additional meetings in our attempt to have meaningful dialogue and mitigate the harmful impacts of the RTO mandate with the CDTFA. Our team has yet to discuss our concerns with CDTFA from our represented employees who are impacted by this shift back to working in-office after multiple years of successfully working remotely. Concerns such as parking, additional commute time to and from satellite parking facilities, sufficient space for all employees to work in buildings designed for a telecommute workforce, and closure of the Light Rail Green line from 16 June 2025 to September 2026.

These meetings are just one part of our ongoing work to push back on sweeping return to office requirements being placed on SEIU Local 1000 represented employees. Please visit the SEIU Local 1000 website to find out how you can get more involved in our Union’s fight to retain telework for our represented employees.
