SEIU Local 1000 and the California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) are now participants in the first cohort of the Civil Service Career Development Pilot Program with classes planned to begin in October 2023. Upward mobility is a priority at Local 1000, and we are always looking for ways to help our members find enhanced career paths and higher incomes through programs like these.
This program will provide new career enhancement opportunities for employees represented by SEIU Local 1000 within specific participating departments. Building on their experience in current occupations, participants will engage with subject matter covered in our Financial Services Apprenticeship and IT Apprenticeships.
Additionally, the program comes with little-to-no cost to participants. Tuition and books will be provided, and instruction is grant-funded. Currently, EDD, FTB, and DSH-represented employees are eligible to apply. Over a hundred opportunities are available, and thanks to online delivery, geographic location is not a barrier to entry.
Participants who have been accepted in the program will complete two terms of coursework, either along the Financial Services track or the IT track. In addition, they can take classroom instruction in subjects such as Information Technology, Business English, and Accounting at American River College.
Upon program completion, participants will have obtained skills to enhance their current career while gaining exposure to the functions of occupations in other industry sectors which may be of interest to them.
The period for applications for the first Civil Service Career Exploration Pilot Program ran from July 17 to July 21st. Future expansions of the program will continue to be updated on our website. Click here for more information.
