Our members joined with our union’s Lavender Committee and more than 17,000 Sacramento-area residents to celebrate LGBT Pride month with a parade and festival on June 10. Across the state and the nation, events like this one celebrate and honor the LGBT culture and pride and the decades-long struggle to overcome prejudice and to earn the natural right for individuals to be accepted for who they are.
“We’re building stronger bonds with each other and with our community,” said Maria Patterson, chair of Local 1000’s Lavender Committee. “Labor unions have been at the forefront of advocating for gay rights, and I’m proud to be part of a union that fights for equality and social justice for everyone. As a union, and as a community, our diversity is our strength, and together we can create a better world.”
