Local 1000 Job Stewards are union members who represent their coworkers, making sure contract rights are upheld and workplace concerns are addressed. They stand on the front lines, protecting the rights we’ve worked hard to secure.
Recently, at a Department of Food and Agriculture (DFA) station, a new steward faced challenges when a manager tried to undermine their role. The manager, concerned about worksite issues being discussed, made inappropriate demands—violating the protections for stewards outlined in our contract.
Local 1000 acted quickly. With support from our Union Resource Center, we filed a grievance, reinforcing that stewards have the same rank and respect as State managers.
We won! The DFA Labor Relations Officer granted the grievance and committed to work closely with our steward to ensure fair treatment moving forward.
This victory shows the strength of our union and the importance of standing together to protect our rights.
