Article published on October 7, 2022

Our SEIU Local 1000 Board of Directors (BOD) held a virtual meeting September 23-25, 2022 to continue their work in governing our union. The Board is comprised of 65 member-elected representatives — 51 District Labor Council (DLC) Presidents, 10 Bargaining Unit Chairs, and 4 Statewide Officers.

On Friday we had a report on the current finances and projections for the remainder of the year, along with an update from our Legal department on representational wins. On Saturday morning we heard updates from our Research, Political, and Organizing departments, followed by news from our Member Resource Center (MRC) and Union Resource Center (URC).

On Sunday afternoon the Board voted on the following policy adoptions:

The Board voted 38-5 to form a Hearing Officer Panel to oversee all HR-1s filed against statewide leadership.  A process consistent with the Policy File is now in place for our Union.

A proposal to form a committee on the future of Local 1000 to study, examine and report recommendations to the BOD prior to the September 2023 Board Meeting passed 43-1.

By a 41-0 vote, the board agreed to a proposed seven-day Board meeting in September 2023 to focus on governance and the results of the work of the committee

Finally, a consent calendar — covering a number of procedural motions — was approved by a 46-0 vote

Our 2023 March, September and December Board meetings will all be in person. All support systems needed to facilitate these events are in the process of being secured.
