We won a contract that puts more money in your pocket
You’ve probably noticed the 3% salary increase in your recent paychecks—it’s the second of three annual raises from our 2023 contract campaign. This raise is a direct result of our collective efforts and strength as a union.
Our members stood up for better pay, improved working conditions, and stronger benefits, and because we were stronger together, we won the largest three-year contract in Local 1000 history. Here are some of the highlights:
- A 10% General Salary Increase over three years: 3% in July ’23, 3% in July ’24, and 3% or 4% in July ’25, based on the state’s budget.
- A 4% Wage Equity Adjustment for more than 150 of Local 1000’s lowest-earning classifications (those earning $20/hr. or less).
- Special Salary Adjustments (SSAs) of 5% or more for more than 170 different classifications to address recruitment and retention issues and below-market pay rates.
- A Direct Monthly Premium Health Care Stipend of $165 for primary enrollees in a CalPERS health care on top of the regular employer premium contribution as determined through the 80/80 health care formula. This preserves the effective monthly net benefit of the original $260 health care stipend ($165 after taxes).
- An OPEB Reduction of 0.5% in our OPEB (Retiree Health Care Plan) contribution from 3.5% to 3%. This reduction in OPEB mitigates the 0.5% pension contribution increase that went into effect in July 2023.
- Health Care Facility Retention Payment paid at three levels to eligible employees who worked onsite or provided in-person services more than 50% of the time during the pandemic. $1450 for employees at correctional facilities, correctional health facilities, state hospitals, veteran’s homes, and developmental services facilities; $1000 for CDPH employees in nine classifications; and $625 for state special schools employees.
